Pilates is a method of body conditioning that trains the mind and body to work together to achieve physical fitness.
With over 500 exercises performed with mental focus and fluidity, Pilates builds strength, flexibility and control. The exercises are performed in a specified order with minimum repititions while emphasizing precision, concentration and breathing. Pilates is very efficient as each exercise utilizes several groups of muscles simultaneously and inherently provides both strength and stretch components.
All Pilates exercises are initiated from the powerhouse, which is made up of the abdominals, the lower back, the inner thighs and the buttocks. As the powerhouse becomes stronger and more stable, the posture is improved and the limbs can move with greater ease. Pilates carries over into the rest of your life improving how you sit, how you stand and how you move.
As clients progress, the workout becomes increasingly challenging and aerobic.
All Pilates is not the same
As Pilates has gained popularity, many facilites have begun to offer Pilates-based programs. The authentic Pilates method is quite different.
At Pilates of West County, we adhere strictly to the original method and philosophy created and developed by Joseph Pilates over several decades as it was handed down to us by Romana Kryzanowska, master teacher and Joseph Pilates’ protegé.
This work is trusted. It has stood the test of time and we have experienced the results.
Pilates is for everyone!
Everyone can benefit from Pilates. All of our instructors are trained to customize a program based on clients age, fitness goals and past injuries.
You do not have to be “in shape” to start Pilates. Pilates is an anatomically sound exercise system that can be effective in post-rehab fitness.
The benefits of Pilates can range from helping the exercise novice start an exercise program to challenging the elite athlete seeking to improve skills and prolong performance.
